Fin for Sales: Guidance
Shape how Fin for Sales sounds, handles edge cases, and understands your business in sales conversations.
Fin for Sales has its own guidance, separate from Fin for Service. This is where you shape how Fin sounds, how it handles tricky moments, and how much it knows about your business. The more context you give here, the smarter every conversation gets.
This lesson is part of the Fin for Sales course.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure the following are in place:
- Fin for Sales access: Go to Fin AI Agent → Sales to get started.
- Playbook created: Set up your playbook so Fin knows how to qualify and route leads. Create your Playbook.

Guidance is how you shape the way Fin communicates in a sales context. This is completely separate from the guidance we've set up for Fin for service, so you're starting fresh here. There are four areas to fill in. First, be specific about the tone. Sales conversations feel different from support ones, so we want Fin to sound consultative and genuinely curious, not like it's running through checklists. Second, think about the conversation flow. Prospects respond much better to one question at a time. Tell Fin to start with what brought them here first before moving into qualification. Third, prepare Fin for edge cases. What should it say if someone asks about a competitor, gets frustrated, or asks for a human straightaway? Anticipating these moments makes Finn much more resilient. And finally, give Finn your business context. Think of this like onboarding a new teammate. So tell it which use cases you support, which ones you don't, what's your target company size, is budget approval needed before booking a call. So the more context we give here, the smarter every conversation gets. And as we're working through the playbook, guidance, content, the preview panel on the right hand side is available the whole time. This is a great moment to pause and use it before we move on to integrations. Try a few quick exchanges as your target prospect. Does the tone feel right, and is it responding the way you'd expect based on what you wrote? We'll do a full end to end test before deploying, but catching issues here will save us time later.
The four areas of guidance
The video walks through each area in detail. Here’s a quick reference for when you’re writing yours:
| Area | What to include |
|---|---|
| Tone | How Fin should sound in sales conversations: consultative, curious, not like it’s running through a checklist. |
| Conversation flow | Tell Fin to lead with one question at a time. Start with what brought the prospect here before moving into qualification. |
| Edge cases | What Fin should say when someone asks about a competitor, gets frustrated, or requests a human. |
| Business context | Which use cases you support, your target company size, whether budget approval is needed before booking a call. Think of it like onboarding a new teammate. |
After filling in your guidance, use the preview panel to test a few exchanges as your target prospect before moving on. Does the tone feel right? Is Fin responding the way you’d expect? Catching issues here saves time later.
